So, a quick little overview of my home audio setup πŸ™‚

All UPnP/DLNA based…

Suggestions to improve, questions and comments are always welcome! 😎

Currently still not looking at Spotify actually… Most of the music I play are either podcasts or online sources (stubru πŸ™‚ )

So, we’ve bought a nice Sony Bravia TV (W6), featuring the today’s “default networking” options.

But I want to control it from my Windows Phone 7 device πŸ™‚
(ofcourse!)
The current sony bravia compatible apps, don’t actually work on the new generation… So, we’re figuring out how and what the 2013 models are actually capable off!

So, where to start…
Sony has it’s own official app for android, and everything works fine…
When you combine this with WireShark, or at least tcpdump, this gives a very nice insight in what happens.

So, after trying some things out on my tablet, I started analysing the results from tcpdump.

First results came out like this: http://mendelonline.be/sony/sony.txt

A rest interface listens on an http-webserver, while upnp-traffic goes on 52323.

Using a rest client, https://addons.mozilla.org/En-us/firefox/addon/restclient/, you can run some commands, and simulate the commands from above
restclient

Next in the house comes Intel’s Device Spy for UPnP technologies, or a more up to date versions from https://sites.google.com/site/opensoftwareprojects/dev-tools-for-upnp

upnpspyAnd there you notice the function “X_SendIRCC”.
This in combination with the commands we found above enables us to do what we want πŸ™‚

For the moment I’ve teamed up withΒ etrosce from BraviaControl and Falco from Sony Virtual Remote Control to figure out what’s going on!
Sony Virtual Remote Control actually works (it has a cached version of the earlier found commands),
So, if we can “port” it somehow to WP7, things would be cooool πŸ™‚

Anyway, I’ll keep you posted!

Thank you guys for making this great sets!

Yes, I’ve bought an Windows Phone device 😈

And you can of course use it to call people, browse the internet and listen to some music…

But the real geek starts developing ofcourse 😎

I already have some idea’s for “funny/cool/useful?” programs, let’s name some of them (maybe someone can steal my ideas and make it in a REAL useful application)

  1. a dommel download meter, to see how much broadband you have left
  2. an application that shows the traffic camera’s of the flemish traffic control, perhaps with the location of the speed control?
  3. a wifi scanner that has the functionality of for example inssider

But first, getting back into programming
Second, getting back into .net-programming πŸ˜†

Maybe I’ll post some code snippets here πŸ˜‰

Wish me luck!

When electronics become slow, unstable, or just boring, you can (mostly) upgrade them.

If your computer is getting slow you can buy a new cpu.
When you laptop has a shortage on storage space, you buy a new hard disk. Same with soundcards, RAM, and others.

But you can’t (yet) do that with a telephone (or a mac ^^)

Anyhow, my old & trusty HP was getting rusty… (Not literally ofc ‘cause plastic can’t rust πŸ™„ )

So it was replaced πŸ˜€

Let’s compare!

name

Hewlett-Packard iPAQ 614c

Samsung GT-i8700 Omnia 7

cpu Intel XScale PXA270 @ 520MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 @ 1000MHz
ram 128MiB 512MiB
storage 256MiB+8GB Β΅SD 7.97GB
display resolution 240*380 480*800
display diagonal 2.8″ 4″
camera resolution 3.1MP 4.92MP
weight 145grams + battery (+- 180grams) 138grams

Jeeaaaah, it’s a bit of an improvement

I went to Fnac, a multimedia shop, located here in Ghent. Played with several devices (including some high-end android and even symbian)… But WP7 popped out. It’s animations are incredible fluent, wonderful eye-candy, and it just works. A lot of things are still missing: like for example the copy-paste functionality, and a skype client. But I’m sure (call my naΓ―ve) they will become available in the next few months… 😎
And something I noticed on android, sometimes frames are just skipped? The menu’s are just not THAT fluent, especially when I compared it with WP7… I didn’t had the chance to try the GalaxyS, and I don’t know what versions of android where installed on the devices I tried, but maybe some optimizations can be made… (Tried the high-end HTC’s though…)

Anyway, I’ve been playing with my omnia for a couple of days now, and I’m loving it… Everything is synchronized with hotmail, and my desktop computer. Google Android surely has the same functionality, but still…

Marketplace is something nice, the only close the entire platform as money in a safe… Damn, I hate that… Microsoft went “Apple-style”… Hopefully they’ll create something android like with next to the marketplace, the apk-installable files πŸ˜€

Pictures aren’t that bad, at least they don’t “move” like my previous cellphone…

even at night

The biggest issue is ofcourse the battery. I play with that cellphone all day long… But you can’t do that without charging it… When you do nothing with the device, you’ll probably make it trough the day… Maybe I need to find some energy saving tricks ^^
Now, after some days, I noticed that it’s perfectly doable to make it trough the day… Which wasn’t always possible with my hp… But the hp was continuously syncing with hotmail, the samsung only each 30 minutes (which IS a pretty huge difference…)

The list of negative arguments will probably grow in the future, but for now it’s a great device
Atm only the lack of copy/paste 😐 (I notice I used that quite a lot, even on a telephone πŸ˜€ )

Thanks to the Last.fm tracker is this a pretty easy job.

It just keeps track of which songs are played, and some sql and php stuff does the rest.

So here an overview of the tracks I’ve played the most in the past year 😈

But actually I don’t agree with that list  They are actually pretty good songs which sound trough my speakers pretty regulary, but the best songs are just that other listΒ

  1. Greg Downey – From Above
  2. Orjan Nilsen – Go Fast [RIP]
  3. Gareth Emery – Arrival (Featuring Brute Force)
  4. Delerium vs. Gareth Emery – This Is That Silence (Myon Collision)
  5. Sunlounger & Zara – Lost (Andrelli & Blue Remix)
  6. Martin Roth & Alex Bartlett – Off The World (Lange Remix)
  7. Coast 2 Coast feat. Le Sal and Phoenix – Cut Me (John O’Callaghan Rework)
  8. Jamin Winans – John’s Walk
  9. Headhunterz – Psychedelic
  10. Afrojack feat Eva Simons – Take Over Control

And of course some massive tracks like Swedish House Mafia, Tim Berg and even David Guetta!

Gewoon wegdromen…
